Where the pattern was set
I was a consistent student, but what I remember more clearly is everything around the classroom. I played football for my school team through those years. In my senior years I was appointed Vice Discipline Captain, and then Discipline Captain.
It is not a role you are given for being popular. It is given to you when the staff believe you will hold a standard even when nobody is watching. I have carried that idea into everything since.

A decision
The Services Selection Board
I appeared before the Services Selection Board three times, once at Allahabad and twice at Bangalore.
My parents were not ready to send me. They never put it to me as a refusal, and they never asked me to give it up, but I could see what the thought of it was costing them. I took my time over the decision, and in the end I chose to stay.
I had prepared for it seriously and I do not pretend it was easy to set aside. It was my decision to make, and I made it.
What the process gave me has stayed with me: the discipline, and the habit of holding a standard when no one is checking.

Finance
Engineering had taught me how things are built. Finance taught me how they are sustained: costing, margins, working capital, the arithmetic that decides whether a good idea survives its second year.
The ground I covered was financial management, cost and management accounting, corporate finance, investment analysis and portfolio management, and financial modelling.
I did not know it at the time, but I was preparing to run a business.

GEO Sports
My father's foundation, and what I have built on it
The business began with my father, under the name Nirmal Apparels and Sports. Leather ball making is old, exacting work: the hides, the stitching, the weight and the seam, the grading of every ball that leaves the floor. He knew that trade thoroughly, and he set the standard the business was run to. Everything we sell today still rests on that.
We are a Meerut business. Cricket goods have been made in this city and sent around the world for generations, and there is a great deal you only learn by being from a place where the trade is old.
What I brought to it was a different set of tools. Engineering had taught me how to build systems; finance had taught me the arithmetic that decides whether a business survives its next season. I applied both to what my father had already made.
I renamed the firm GEO Sports and restructured it. I gave it a brand and a proper digital presence: our own identity, our own website, and direct reach to buyers who would never have found a Meerut unit any other way. I reworked how we cost, grade and price, and organised the wholesale supply of cricket goods to run properly alongside the manufacturing.

We are not finished. The plan is to widen the manufacturing into more of the goods we currently only supply, and to keep extending our reach. My father built something solid. My work is to take it as far as it will go.

In my own words
About me
I am a reserved and simple person by nature. I put my full effort into whatever I have taken on, and I believe more in doing the work than in talking about it.
My constant habit is reading. Philosophy, psychology, history, biographies. I read widely, and it is the part of my day I protect most carefully.
Football has stayed with me since school and remains something I enjoy.
I do not smoke or drink, and I am vegetarian.
Someone simple and honest.

What I am looking for
I am looking for someone simple and honest. Those two words carry more weight for me than any list of qualifications.
My work asks a lot of me, and I would like a partner who understands that and helps me stay focused and steady in it. But I want to be very clear that this runs both ways. Whatever she is working towards, whether her career, her studies, her family, or something of her own, she will have exactly the same commitment from me.
Beyond that: a home that is serene. Respect for both families. Two people who take each other's ambitions seriously.
